Adopted by Jesus

29 Mar

“he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,”‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

It’s such great peace to know that I am a daughter of the King; the King of kings. I am His heir. I have access to everything that He has available to Him; which is everything.

According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, the definition of adoption is to  take a child of other parents legally as your own child. Hello!! Do you understand the concept of that?!

Jesus has taken us as His own.

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”” Romans 8:15. ESV

“So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” Galatians 4:7 ESV

“For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.” Romans 4:13 ESV

“so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:7 ESV

Of course, I have to put my favorite: “All glorious is the princess in her chamber, with robes interwoven with gold. In many-colored robes she is led to the king, with her virgin companions following behind her. With joy and gladness they are led along as they enter the palace of the king.” Psalm 45:13-15 ESV.

These are just a few verses proving that we are adopted and heirs of Jesus. Isn’t that wonderful news for all of us? God will never leave us. As long as we know Him as our Lord and Savior, we will forever be His. We are children of Almighty God. WE ARE ROYALTY!! It can’t get any better than that!!

Stripped Down

28 Mar

The last few days of my writing have been unusual for me. I have been really letting everything out. I’ve been pouring my heart out.

I have been making myself “raw.” I want you all to know that I’m just as real as you are. I’m stripped down for all to see the real me. After all, that’s what my blog is supposed to be about: being real, no masks.

I decided to look up the word stripped. Of course, the dictionary talks about it in a sexual content. I did find a definition that I liked. The definition of stripped that I liked was: totally exposed.

That’s what I want to be in my writing. I want to be totally exposed. I want to be stripped down for God.

I know there are some examples of people being totally exposed before God. I know that Job stripped everything off and fell to his knees before the Lord. He even shaved his head. (“Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped.” Job 1:20).

David also came totally exposed before the Lord. It was after his affair with Bethsheba. She became pregnant with his child. Nathan told David that the Lord would afflict the child. “David therefore sought God on behalf of the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground.” 2 Samuel 12:16 ESV

The last example I’m going to give is Jesus. Jesus was stripped down before the whole city. He was totally exposed physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. Jesus asked God to let the cup pass from Him if it was the Father’s will.

I’m sure there are many more examples in the Bible. These are the three I decided to use. It’s what God brought to my mind. So, I know it was meant to use them.

There are times that we need to become totally exposed before the Lord. We need to let God strip down the weight of the world off of our shoulders. That’s what God wants us to do. He wants us to tell Him what we’re thinking and how we are feeling. Jesus knows anyway.

So, why don’t we want to become stripped down before God? Are we afraid of what God may show us? Are we afraid to take off our masks? I encourage you to strip it down before the Lord. I pray that I can stay stripped down in front of God. I want God to see all of me. Let God see all of you.

God’s Protection

24 Mar

Exodus Chapters 4-12

This is what I’ve been reading and listening to the last few days. God told Moses to go before Pharoah to tell him to set the Israelites free. Moses did as he was told. Pharoah was too hard hearted to listen. God had told Moses that this would happen. As always, God had other plans for Pharoah and the Egyptians.

God uses Moses to give powerful signs to Pharoah and the Egyptian people. The first thing was that God told Moses to thrown down his staff in front of Pharoah. Moses’ staff turned into a serpent; which Pharoah’s  men of the  dark arts could do the same thing. This goes to show us that Satan can be just as powerful as God. God will only let Satan go so far.

Before God starts sending these plagues, God sends the Israelites to the land of Goshen. God wanted His people to be protected.

God sends ten plagues. He turned the Nile into blood. He sends a plague of frogs. He sends a plague of gnats. He sends a plague of flies. The 5th plague was that all the Egyptian livestock die. The 6th plague was God placing boils upon everyone. The 7th plague was hail. The 8th plague was locusts. The 9th plague was darkness. The last plague was when God sent the death of the first born.

Each time, God protected the Israelites from each plague. None of the plagues affected the Israelites. They didn’t receive one frog or even one boil. God protected all of their first born.

I have seen God’s protection. When we driving a truck, there were times we didn’t get out on time. Once we did leave, there was an accident. If we would have left on time, we could have been in that accident. Through the years, we have been to some dangerous areas. We have never been attacked, assaulted, or robbed. I have seen the hand of God plenty of times.

Have you seen how God has protected you? Have you been able to see the ways that God has protected you? Have you ever been running late for work? Had to take a detour? Got held up in traffic? That was God’s protection.

It would do us all good to see God’s protection. Instead of complaining, we should thank God for whatever happens. After all, we are supposed to be thankful in all circumstances. 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Everything happens for reason. It’s all to bring glory to God.

21 Mar

“Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’” The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.” And he said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it. But the Lord said to Moses, “Put out your hand and catch it by the tail”—so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand— “that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” Again, the Lord said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow. Then God said, “Put your hand back inside your cloak.” So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh. “If they will not believe you,” God said, “or listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign. If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.” But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.””‭‭Exodus‬ ‭4:1-13‬ ‭ESV‬‬
I know this is more scripture than I usually use, but I had to put all this scripture for the full context of what God has given me today. There will be times that I have to give the whole picture and not just part of it.

This was part of my daily reading this morning. I try to read through the Bible every year. I don’t always do it.

Anyway, as I was reading through this today, God showed me something that I hadn’t seen before. I never realized all the excuses Moses made to God. Moses was trying to really hard to get out of what God was telling him to do.

I thought of myself. How many times I’ve tried to make excuses? I was like Moses, “God, can’t you send someone else?”

In June 2014, I attended a workshop called “Woman at the Well.” This workshop is held by an author and speaker in her home.

Another one of the ladies asked her about getting published. I didn’t hear the question, but I heard her response. She said, “Any good publisher is going to want the author to speak.”

I was like Moses. I have had problems with stuttering. I’ll also get to talking really fast when I get excited. So, I said, “God, there is no way that I can speak in front of people.” “You need to find someone else.”

As I was driving home from Tyler, Tx, God spoke to me. God told me that I was trying to be like Moses. Not only that, but I wasn’t having faith that God could straighten my stuttering or help me slow down in my excitement. I said, “Okay; God, I’m willing if that’s what You want me to do.”

Many of us want to be like Moses. God tells us to do something, and we try to find every excuse in the world not to do it. We’ll use finances, spouse, family, it’s out of our comfort zone, and so much more.

God will not put up with any kind of excuses. God wants us to be obedient with no questions asked. Moses made God angry with the excuses.

God does not like excuses. There is no reason good enough to be disobedient to God. Like with Moses, we can bring God’s anger down on us. God will give you what you need to do what He is calling you to do. He WILL equip you.

It doesn’t matter if He wants us to go on a mission trip. He can tell us to forgive someone. He can tell us to move somewhere else. Whatever God tells us to do, we better be sure to do it. There are consequences to disobedience.

What is God telling you to do? What excuses are you trying to make? Do you think of the consequences of your disobedience?

Getting Rid of the Clutter

17 Mar

Isaiah 1:16 Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean, remove the evil of your deeds…ESV

For off and on the last few weeks, I’ve been trying to get rid of some of our clutter in our home. Yes, there have been things that I wanted to keep. Then I ask myself, “Do I really need this?” “Do I just want it?” “Am I really going to use this?” If I answer myself honestly, the answer will just about always be, “NO!!!!”

I know of people that hang on to things for years. They will NOT let it go. They rather it rot away with time than to get rid of it. I know people that have grown children that still have their toys when they were little. I can see keeping a few items, but if it’s causing havoc to find somewhere to store it. You NEED to get rid of it. Wouldn’t like someone else less fortunate be able to play with it? Do you really NEED all of the items that you are holding on to? Are you just dreaming about fixing it or saving it for something?

Just like we have to throw things away in or around our home, we need to do the same thing within our heart, soul, and mind. We need to get rid of all the clutter that is taking up space in our spiritual lives. We can keep collecting clutter until there’s no place to put the good things: God’s Word, our favorite Bible verses, favorite worship songs, favorite sermons and Bible studies. We can get spiritually cluttered by this sinful world that we live in.

So, we need to do the inevitable. We need to go through every room and clean it out good. Don’t leave anything behind that you won’t be able to use now or later. THROW IT OUT!!!! THROW IT AWAY!!!! It’s not going to help you in your walk with Jesus. We have to get rid of all the trash and junk that is living in our spiritual home: heart, mind, and soul. Actually, this needs to be done on a daily basis. We need to make it a part of our every day spiritual life. We need to ask Jesus to remove all the clutter. We need to ask Him to remove what doesn’t belong. We must be willing to get rid of everything that needs to go or doesn’t belong in our spiritual being.

Do you wonder why God isn’t answering your prayers? Maybe it’s due to all the clutter in your spiritual life. Do you feel like God is a million miles away? More than likely, you have too much clutter to even feel God. I can guarantee you that God didn’t move. It’s you that has moved. Do you feel spiritually dried up? GET RID OF YOUR SPIRITUAL CLUTTER!!!!

If you want to see God move, you must be willing to get rid of ALL of your clutter; even the stuff you want to stay!!!!

Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks

16 Mar

“and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” Colossians 3:10
We have all heard the saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Once again, this saying is wrong. Evidentially, the person that came up with this saying didn’t know about the power of Jesus. The person didn’t know how Jesus can change a person and teach a person new things.

I’ve learned a lot of things since June 2014. I learned the meaning of dysfunction. I’ve learned about co-dependency. I’ve learned about addictions besides substance addictions. I didn’t know there were so many addictions. I’ve learned the definition of a narcissist and so much more.

I’ll have to say. The best thing I’ve learned is: NO ONE WILL EVER LOVE ME THE WAY JESUS DOES!!!! NO ONE WILL EVER ACCEPT ME THE WAY JESUS DOES!!!!

I thought it was too late for me. I asked God, “Why did I wait so late to learn this?” I felt an urging by God to research people in the Bible that waited a long time for promises or healing. So, I did that.

Of course, I started with Abraham and Sarah. I believe it was 20 years before God fulfilled the promise He gave them for a child of their own. There’s the woman that had the issue of blood for 12 years. In John 5, there’s the man that was an invalid for 38 years. There are many more passages about people that were healed after years of suffering.

Was it too late for them? No, their healing was used for the glory of God right at the very moment they were healed. God is never too late or never early. He is ALWAYS right on time!!!!

I learned it wasn’t too late for me to learn what God taught me. I didn’t know how God was going to use what He taught me. I didn’t see it come to fruition until one of our nieces moved in with us.

One night, Tracy and I had just fallen asleep. Our niece knocked on our bedroom door. She was very upset. She found out her boyfriend did something to hurt her dearly.

Tracy and I tried to talk to her. We tried to help her settle down. I’m going to be honest. I didn’t want her to give this guy the time of day. He broke her heart.

While Tracy and I were talking to her, I told her this: “NO MAN ON THIS EARTH CAN LOVE YOU LIKE JESUS CAN LOVE YOU!!!!” There it was. I used my lesson for the first time.

Since then, God has used this lesson to continually teach me about His love. I tend to be selfish with Tracy (sometimes). I’ll treat him like a possession instead of my spouse. God has to remind me, “ONLY I CAN LOVE YOU THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE LOVED!!!! NO ONE CAN DO ONLY WHAT I CAN DO!! MY LOVE IS UNDEFINED AND IMMEASURABLE!!”

So, we are NEVER too old to learn something new; especially when we know Jesus on a personal level. Jesus renews our mind daily. When we surrender to Christ, we receive the mind of Christ.

So, don’t ever think your lessons from God are too late. God teaches you those lessons for a reason. You will be able to use it when you least expect it.

Digging Deep

14 Mar

“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!”‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:23‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts.” Proverbs 20:27 ESV

First of all, I want to thank God for the sunshine today. I pray all those affected by flooding will get the help they need. I pray that others will reach out to them to help them in their time of need.

I have been asking myself, “Why are we so afraid for God to really search us (including myself)? Why do we only want to stay on the surface? Why are we satisfied with a mediocre walk with Jesus?

I really believe it has to do with TOTAL and COMPLETE surrender to Jesus Christ!!

It hasn’t been the easiest thing for me to reflect and continually meditate on these verses. I’m not going to lie. I was afraid of what God would find, and I would learn about myself. After all, I’m supposed to be like Jesus.

I had to ask myself, “Are you satisfied with your relationship with Jesus; as it is? Did I want a deeper, more intimate walk with Jesus? Did I just want to float through life or be willing to walk in the deserts of life; among the thorns and the thistles?” “Was I willing to do what it takes to be more like Jesus? Was I really ready to surrender TOTALLY and COMPLETELY to Jesus?”

I’m going to be truthful. At first, I wasn’t willing to surrender my whole life to Jesus. There were some things I still wanted to keep for myself.

I knew I was happy with my mediocre walk with Jesus. I knew I desire to be close and intimate with Jesus. After all, I need to be intimate with Jesus to be an imitator of Jesus.

Not only that. I also wanted to get better mentally and emotionally. The only way to do that would be for me to be willing to let JESUS search my innermost parts. I needed to get more into the Word and have that quiet time with Jesus. I also need to take just a few minutes every day to be still; with no TV, no phone, no nothing, and bask with Jesus.

Psalm 64:6 says: the inward mind and heart of a man are deep. Psalm 77:6…my heart made a diligent search. Jeremiah 17:10 I the Lord search the heart and test the mind. These few verses shows you how important it is to God for Him to be able to search us.

I made my decision for God to search my heart, mind, and soul. It’s the best decision I made. Now, I do know of a deeper, more intimate relationship with Christ. It’s so deep to where I can actually feel God’s hand upon my heart; making and molding it for Him. I’ve actually danced with Jesus.

Don’t you want the experience of dancing with Jesus on this side of Heaven?! Are you tired of your mediocre relationship with Jesus? You must be willing to let God search you and dig deep. You WILL develop the best relationship with Jesus you ever had.
